Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just buy glass or windows from you and install them myself?

Absolutely! When you complete our online Quote Request, be sure to provide as much information as you can about what you need (detailed dimensions, pictures of where product is going, required finishes, hardware requirements etc.) and we will get back to you with a “supply-only” quote.

Do you cut glass for custom table tops, mirrors, etc.?

Yes, we will need the exact measurements and precise shape or you can bring in the frame or table to assure a perfect fit.

If I bring in a screen to be repaired or need a piece of your in-stock glass cut, can you do it while I wait?

We can often complete a small, simple job while you wait, depending on how busy our glass technicians are. If they are too busy with other customer commitments, we’ll let you know when your project will be ready for pick-up.

I have some ideas for a new glass shower and would like a quote. How can I get one?

Simply complete and submit our online Quote Request and send us as much information as you can including a sketch with dimensions, preferences on glass type and hardware styles/finishes, photos, links to websites with design ideas and anything else you can think of that will help us price and convert the shower of your dreams to reality. Or check out our showroom displays for ideas at 943 Notre Dame Avenue!

Can you change just the glass in my window if it is broken or has moisture inside of it?

Yes, we can. Changing just the glass in your window is a very common practice for us. What can’t be done is changing just the broken pane. Double-pane windows or insulated glass units are sealed at the factory. Once a seal has failed, repairing it is not possible and the entire sealed unit has to be replaced. Best-Way Glass can assist you by ordering a new replacement window and installing it. Simply complete and submit our online Quote Request letting us know exactly what you need.

Can you change or repair the windshield in my car?

No, we do not replace or repair automotive glass.

Can you drill holes in Plexiglass?

Yes, but it cracks very easily. If you plan on drilling holes, Lexan is a better product to use.

Will Plexiglass or Lexan yellow in the sun?

Yes, both of these products will turn yellow if exposed to too much direct sunlight (Lexan more than Plexiglass, however, Lexan can be polished to restore its clarity).

How can the amount of light coming in through the window be controlled?

The most common ways to reduce the amount of light through a window is using tinted, coated or translucent glass. Glass can be manufactured in several different tints, as well as numerous low-e coatings. Another way to control the amount of light is with electrochromic glass, which in simplest terms is electronically tinting the glass.

What is insulated glass?

A single unit consisting of two pieces of glass sealed around the edges with an air space in between them is an insulated glass unit. Insulated glass units have air or argon sandwiched between pieces of glass. These units are one of the most effective ways to minimize outside-inside heat transfer.

What is laminated glass

Laminated glass consists of at least two sheets of glass bonded into a “sandwich” configuration by a plastic interlayer. Laminated glass is used for safety and security. It limits the risk of injury in the event of glass breakage in circumstances such as hurricanes, defenestration, and vandalism.

What is tempered glass?

Four times stronger than annealed glass, tempered glass is created by heating the glass to over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit, then rapidly cooling it to lock the glass surface in a state of compression and the core in a state of tension. Tempered glass is considered safety glass because when broken, the fragments are smaller and less sharp than other kinds of glass.

When is tempered glass used for table tops?

We recommend tempered glass for table tops that do not sit on a solid surface. When a smooth wood surface is to be covered, 5mm or 6mm glass is recommended. In this case, the edges of the glass can normally be polished to smooth them out to avoid the possibility of injury from the sharp edges, so there is no need for tempering the glass. Otherwise, tempered glass is recommended for tables when the tabletop is not continuous.

Can you cut tempered glass?

No, once glass goes through the tempering process it cannot be cut or drilled.

What is annealed glass?

Also called “flat” glass, annealed glass has been through a process of controlled cooling to prevent stress in the glass. Annealed glass is clear and can be cut, drilled, edged, and polished.
